RU 58841 also known as PSK-3841 or HMR-3841, is a non-steroidal androgen receptor antagonist (anti-androgen compound). Its main mechanism is to bind with high affinity to androgen receptors (AR), blocking the action of androgens like dihydrotestosterone (DHT) on the receptors, thereby producing a local anti-androgen effect.
In medical research, it's mainly explored for treating androgen-dependent conditions such as acne, androgenic alopecia (AGA), and hirsutism. Animal studies have shown that topical application of RU 58841 can significantly promote hair growth and follicle regeneration in balding areas.
However, it's important to notice that RU 58841 is not an approved clinical drug. After early clinical studies in the 1990s, its development stopped. It is now only used as a research chemical or for drug approval testing, and is strictly prohibited for any human trials or non-research animal experiments.
