Pentapeptide-2 is a synthetic peptide (a short chain of five amino acids: Methionine, Glutamine, Proline, Arginine, Lysine) used primarily in cosmetic and skincare formulations. It is not to be confused with other well-known cosmetic peptides like Matrixyl (Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4).

Its primary claim is to reduce the appearance of "tech neck" (neck wrinkles and creases) and expression lines by targeting a specific muscle-contraction pathway.

Mechanism of Action: How Does It Work?
Pentapeptide-2's action is based on mimicking a natural process in the body. Its sequence is derived from a portion of Endozepine-Like Peptide (ELP), a protein found in the brain.

Target: It works by binding to the GABA_A receptor on dermal fibroblasts (skin cells) and potentially at the neuromuscular junction.

Action: By acting as a GABA mimetic, it helps to inhibit acetylcholine-induced muscle contraction. Acetylcholine is the neurotransmitter that signals muscles to contract.

Result: This mild, localized relaxation of the underlying facial muscles leads to a reduction in the repetitive micro-contractions that, over time, form dynamic wrinkles (like horizontal neck lines or forehead lines).
