It inhibits the action of DNA polymerase and topoisomerase II, which are enzymes required for DNA replication. 8-MOP has been shown to be effective at inhibiting the growth of tumor cells in vitro, but it also exhibits minimal toxicity in vivo, suggesting that it may be a good candidate for use as an anti-cancer agent. 8-MOP can inhibit the growth of squamous cell carcinoma cells and T-cell lymphomas by blocking DNA synthesis. 8-MOP also inhibits the proliferation of HL60 cells by blocking RNA synthesis and protein synthesis.
